How GunScore works

From search to score — here's exactly what happens when you look up a deal on GunScore.ai

The user journey

01

You search for a product

Type any gun, optic, suppressor, ammo, or accessory into the search bar. Our autocomplete pulls from our product database instantly — no page reload, no waiting.

Pro tip: You can search by product name, brand, caliber, or UPC code. UPC searches give the most precise results and eliminate variant confusion.
02

We check for confusion pairs

Before showing you results, GunScore checks our known confusion pairs database — common mix-ups that cost buyers money. SCAR 16S vs 17S. ELD-X vs ELD-M. Supersonic vs subsonic .300 Blackout.

Example: Search for "SCAR 17" and we'll warn you about the SCAR 16S — a completely different caliber that buyers frequently confuse when shopping.
03

VECTR scores the deal

Our proprietary algorithm analyzes every available data point — current price vs historical average, retailer trust signals, data freshness, product rarity, and more — and produces a single 0-100 score.

The score is always honest: A bad deal scores low even if the retailer is our affiliate partner. We don't inflate scores for commercial reasons.
04

You see the full picture

Price comparison across retailers, price history, community intel from gun forums, retailer trust ratings, and a price match ready summary you can show at any retailer counter.

Price match feature: Every product page includes a formatted price match card. Walk into Scheels, show them your phone, get the best price matched on the spot.
05

You buy with confidence

Click through to the best deal via our affiliate link. You pay nothing extra — we earn a small commission from the retailer when you purchase. That's how we keep GunScore free forever.

Or set an alert: Not ready to buy yet? Set a price alert and we'll notify you when the VECTR score hits your target or the price drops below your threshold.

VECTR — Deep dive

What each signal actually measures and why it matters
V

Value Signal

Compares the current price against our 30, 90, and 365-day price history for this exact product. A score of 50 means average price. Above 50 means below average — a genuine deal. Below 50 means you're paying more than usual.

Example: SCAR 20S averaging $2,800 over 90 days listed at $2,550 → V score: 78
E

Exactness Score

How confident are we that this listing is the correct product? UPC match = highest confidence. Name match only = lower confidence. This prevents wrong variants from getting inflated scores.

Example: UPC confirmed match → E score: 95. Name match only, no UPC → E score: 65
C

Confidence Score

How fresh and deep is our data? A listing checked 30 minutes ago with 200 price data points scores higher than one checked 3 days ago with 5 data points. Stale data = lower confidence.

Example: Checked 1 hour ago, 150+ historical prices → C score: 92
T

Trust Score

Is this retailer legitimate? We score retailers on order success rate, shipping speed, inventory accuracy, community reputation, and years in business. Sketchy retailers get low trust scores that cap the overall VECTR score.

Example: Cheaper Than Dirt trust score: 45 (caps max VECTR at 60). Lucky Gunner: 94
R

Rarity Score

How hard is this product to find? A suppressor that appears in stock once a year scores higher than a Glock 19 that's available everywhere always. Rare in-stock events deserve attention.

Example: SilencerCo Omega 300 in stock (rare) → R score: 82. Magpul PMAG (always in stock) → R score: 20

65-79Good Deal — Below average price from a trusted retailer
50-64Fair Deal — Average market price, nothing special but legitimate
35-49Weak Deal — Above average price, consider waiting
0-34Avoid — Significantly overpriced or from an untrustworthy source
